Digital India: Life In A Connected World

1980s and 90s were the decades when my generation was growing up attuned to song requests made on AIR by people from a non-descript town called “Jhumri Tilaya” and Lalitaji’s pearls of wisdom on which washing powder made our clothes look whiter or how a particular Scooter brand was creating stronger images of stronger India as it was hard to miss on Sunday morning television along with “Ramayana” and “Mahabharata”.

We kept trying to save a particular character’s girlfriend in the name of Video games. Digital camera was still a distant dreams to the ubiquitous Camera Rolls, X-Boxes and PlayStation were unheard of and life was about scarcity and limited choices. Things already changed when 90s brought the economic liberalization. I coin that liberalization 1.0.

And testimony to that was on Wednesday 1st July 2015,even a 15,000-capacity stadium in Delhi seemed small for a venue when the Prime Minister launched the “Digital India Week” to empower citizens with the use of IT.

Our PM is launching Digital India which means a whole new world where globalization and technology advancement will further shape the way we perceived and see things like never before. Which will give rise to a whole new breed of Consumers. Consumption was no longer about available choices but getting what you want on your terms.

This will be a true step to connect villages with better infrastructure and broadband ….A whole new India will emerge one which will not only match the world but lead the world ..As digital marketer we would love to contribute and make it a reality after all its our bread and butter.

  • Create and actively maintain a blog to significantly increase search visibility, establish expertise and build a community, brand trust, and subscriber lists.
  • Develop a regular content distribution schedule and stick to it. On the Internet, visuals/images matter. Make sure you use appropriate and powerful visuals to reinforce each touch point.
  • Build a subscriber list over time and make sure you keep them informed but non-intrusive and always include your brand’s signature and web link in each email.
  • 4 billion YouTube videos are viewed every day. 68% of video watchers share links to the videos. Create highly compelling videos that tell your brand’s story and post them on YouTube.
  • Include a “Link to This Page” button on every page that you believe has worthwhile content to increase your site traffic through incoming links. Also add Facebook Like, Tweet, LinkedIn Share, g + 1, pin it and other similar buttons to all worthwhile contents.
  • Use RSS feeds to distribute headlines, new content and notifications more broadly.

Mahindra Mpower – A rise inititative for youth entrepreneurs.

The transport industry plays an important role in the development of theIndian economy with the demand for transport infrastructure and services rising by around 10% year on year. However, everyday challenges such as cost versus value focus, asset non-asset based operations, business scope and scale, driver management, information technology and service level and quality management act as barriers in the development of the industry. Adding to these challenges is the ever increasing demand of the customers and price of fuel, toll and manpower.

To empower the transport industry Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. pioneered a programme called ‘MPOWER’, a platform to equip bright minds with skills to improve current operations, while delivering the knowledge to transform the industry in the long term. Designed in association with the prestigious IIM Ahmedabad, the programme aims at bringing professionalism to the industry through youth transport entrepreneurs. NeoNiche was the chosen campaign partner to design and execute the initiative across 7 cities namely Delhi, Jaipur, Patna, Kolhapur, Nadurbaug, Krishnagiri and Namakal. The agenda comprised of power-packed activities with meaningful interactions, insightful case studies, fierce competition and rebuttals being tossed across the room. This was followed by an entertainment evening enthralled with an exclusive performance by Mallika Sarabhai , a renowned classical dancer who left the crowd mesmerised as she dissolved boundaries between tradition and technology through her performance.

MPOWER turned out to be a great initiative that shed light on the hurdles in the development of the transportation industry and the way forward. Some of the dialogues, interactions and case studies presented by the young participants encouraged keen awareness of best practices in the realm of activity-based costing, effective delegation, driver retention and management as well as effective leveraging of IT and technology. The crowd was engaged and reciprocative with an overwhelming participation.
